What Should a Solar Bid Include?

The following elements should be included on the bid a consumer receives from the solar installer or contractor:

  • Total cost of installation from start to finish (including design and construction)
  • Additional cost factors resulting from unique design considerations on the property (most installations will not require these)
  • Breakdown of costs for equipment, labor, permits, and taxes
  • Any applicable state and federal tax credits and other incentives
  • Make and model number of equipment
  • Warranty information
  • Expected operation and maintenance costs
  • Projected monthly, annual, and lifetime energy generation based on orientation, shading, etc. and estimated costs and savings
  • Finance options: cash, loan, or lease (see the Financing a System section for more information)
